Our Philosophy
EVERYBODY TALKS BIG GAME.. SO WE WILL NOT TRY TO PAINT OUR PHILOSOPHY NOT ONLY WITH PLAIN WORDS BUT WITH IMAGINES AND LIFE-QUOTES THAT DEFINE US, MOTIVATE US AND MAKE US TAKE YOU THAT EXTRA MILE IN YOUR TRAVEL.
This quote from Dr. Seuss is pretty trait forward and for us it also translates into many quotes that motivate us. One for example would be ‘‘Slow and steady wins the race’’. At Sekanka our focus is on quality of our experiences, taking to time to get intimate with nature, taking a pause from a predetermined route to explore less travelled ones making time for us to simply breath…
This proves a thing of great importance especially nowadays when almost all mobile safari tours are known to be focused on covering massive distances in a short periods of time. Mother nature has her own tempo, discover it and you will be rewarded.
At Sekanka we have perfected this craft and we have come to appreciate that patience really pays.
A Tswana proverb goes: ‘‘Lepotapota le ja podi, modikologa o ja kgomo’’ and this would loosely translates into ‘Haste earns you a goat, but patience and meticulousness wins you a cow’ and puts emphasis on our the values and style of travel.
Haste is for amateurs. Travel with us and get more value from your safari tours.
This pays homage to our company name Sekanka which means honey badger. We are meticulous in our planning and fearless but yet calculative taking on courses less travelled making sure that our clients get the best out of the time they spend with us.
We are avid travellers ourselves, therefore our itineraries are based on our owned daring adventures and experiences. We have been to the exact destinations ourselves many times over as paying tourists and we know what it takes to make moments memorable, what mistakes not to make, how to raise the bar yet cutting on the prices/costs.
We dare challenge many well established mobile safari operators, most of which are foreign-owned and operate in multiple countries to beat our prices.
We offer our clients what we call a ‘‘price beat down’’ where they have to find a cheaper tour/itinerary similar to what we offer and we will beat it. This still stands as we move into year 2020!
We do things the honey badger-way. All in or nothing!
This one is close to home as it is close to heart. It touches on our views on conservation, a virtue we cherish and promote. It also touches on charity and humility as it encourages to leave only our footprints and nothing more during our operations in nature but also to do leave our footprints where we have been and where go in terms of building relationships with the local community trusts and development committees making sure that the residents do actually benefit directly from tourism.
It is sad to say, but in Botswana like many countries of the world, tourism as an industry take up most of the land in terms of parks and wildlife reserves and in Africa this is usually at the expense of subsistence agriculture and animal farming. This usually raise big conflicts as farmers and the livestocks get constricted but yet getting no compensation as money stay within the walls of 5 star all-inclusive hotels and resorts.
Originating in The Okavango Delta we are sensitive to these issues and conflicts and we try by all means to work with local groups and trusts; Kaziikini trust in Sankoyo, Khwai development trust just to name a few.
In the past couple of years embarked on scholarly excursions where we took primary school pupils into the park as a an attempt to instil awareness and the importance of wildlife conservation at an early age.
Our upcoming NGO ‘The African Footprints Organisation’ is still in its infancy and once operational will be mandated exactly to these tasks.
